L'Etoile is a fine dining restaurant established in 1976 by Chef Odessa Piper. Our seasonal menus are inspired by the Midwest region and are rendered with a French influence.

"It is an honor to partner with Wisconsin farmers; we look forward to working with their incredible ingredients for many years to come." ~Traci Miller, Co-Proprietor

About L'Etoile Restaurant

L’Etoile passionately supports Wisconsin farmers; we are proud to feature local, organic and naturally–raised ingredients on each of our menus. In following food from the farm to the plates we serve, we have learned that respect for the land and a thoughtful relationship between people and their environment is vital to thriving cultures. Many cultures celebrate terroir and embrace the role of food in society with rich food traditions, lively open air markets, and celebrations centered around seasonal harvests. At L'Etoile we support established and burgeoning artisan traditions, local farmers, and local farmers markets, and cultivate our own Wisconsin slow food heritage that embraces seasonal eating.

About L'Etoile
Carrots from Mammoth Produce

Our menus are primarily composed from local ingredients all year round, and achieved through our partnership with a large network of small-scale farms. These farmers provide most of our meats, dairy and produce; including cellared root crops and greens from un-heated hoop houses throughout the winter months. Combined with the restaurant's strategy of putting up quantities of local produce throughout the growing season, L'Etoile's culinary options remain creative, delicious and regionally-reliant, even in the coldest months. Although we do not seek to be regionally-exclusive; our exceptional local ingredients are most delicious when combined with seafood, specialty crops and artisan products from all over the world.

L'Etoile emphasizes personable service in a relaxed and comfortable second-floor dining room overlooking the Capital Square in the heart of downtown Madison.

L'Etoile's award-winning wine list includes a cellar program for optimum storage and aging. The list surveys most wine regions of the world with a particular emphasis on the small, artisan producers of Northern Europe.

Separate dining is available for groups up to 50 in our street level space, which houses Café Soleil.

Café Soleil is located on the street level of L'Etoile's building. The Café features espresso, artisan breads made in-house, sandwiches, sweet and savory pastries, soups and salads, all made with locally-grown ingredients. The Café also features shade grown 100% fair trade organic coffee and espresso from Just Coffee Cooperative. The Café is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 2:30pm.

L'Etoile's Cooking Classes are held in Café Soleil. Class offerings include a three course meal, wine, instruction and recipes to take home. Please check our Cooking Classes page for our upcoming classes, and send us your email address for our mailing list.
